What it is
NMN and NR are both biosynthetic precursors to NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). NAD+ levels decline with age in many tissues.
Evidence snapshot
Category: Longevity. Status: Mixed. See the references section below for the underlying primary sources.
Mechanism
Both NMN and NR are converted to NAD+ through distinct salvage pathways. Elevated NAD+ supports sirtuin function, PARP activity, and other NAD+-dependent enzymes.
Key research findings
Preclinical work in rodents has shown beneficial effects on metabolic function, vascular health, and several ageing biomarkers. Early human trials have demonstrated safety and NAD+ elevation.
Limits of the evidence
Long-term human outcome trials are limited. Effects in healthy adults versus disease populations may differ.
