GHRP-6: Growth Hormone Releasing Hexapeptide

GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide ghrelin mimetic studied as an early-generation GHSR-1a agonist with significant orexigenic effects.

What it is

GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide developed as one of the first potent GHS compounds. Acts at GHSR-1a with significant orexigenic effect.

Evidence snapshot

Category: Growth Hormone. Status: Preclinical. See the references section below for the underlying primary sources.

Mechanism

Activates GHSR-1a to produce GH release. The orexigenic effect (much more pronounced than ipamorelin) limits appetite-modulating applications.

Key research findings

Produced reproducible GH release in rodents and early human studies. Marked appetite stimulation has been demonstrated across species.

Limits of the evidence

Off-label use widespread. Strong appetite effects complicate selectivity. Cortisol and prolactin increases at higher doses. Not approved for any human use.
